Strategy should be helpful not hard
If you are in the business of retailing and you are still in business ; you are a successful retailer. Successful retailers have a great vision for their business, they are resilient, they are calm in the face of the storm and they adapt quickly to the myriad of constantly changing external and internal circumstances.
However, it can sometimes feel like the short term tactics being deployed in response to a changing environment are moving your business further away from its strategic goals. This does not mean that your strategy is wrong or your team lacks the necessary capability.
More often than not, you could be doing things that are not really adding value and these things are taking focus away from the critical things that matter right now. Sometimes, these may have even been things that did add value in the past but have not remained relevant to current insights and trends in your journey. A clear strategic framework built on a foundation of verifiable insights that aligns your objectives with the critical capabilities needed to differentiate your brand makes it easier to decide “what not to do” in the medium term future.
It could just be a first hand perspective around global developments to inspire you and your team into looking at priorities differently (even reinforcing your current strategy) is what is needed.
It could be supporting your team in their strategic thinking, providing an alternative set of eyes on new ideas, ramping an important innovation project and sharing thoughtful perspectives on how to tackle disruption is all that is lacking.
